Transition at BHS
Burnley High School considers transition from Primary to Secondary school to be one of the most important events in a child’s education and we endeavour to ensure that children feel completely supported throughout this process. By spending the time we do, the vast majority of our students start Year 7 in September without any concerns.
Every child who is given a place with us will have their Year 6 class teacher visited or contacted prior to joining BHS. They will tell us key assessment information as well as the strengths of your child, their interested and what motivates them. We use this information to then put your children into their tutor groups.
Many children will have already visited us in year 5 due to our work with our local primary schools, but all Year 6 students who are allocated a place at BHS will attend for a ‘taster day’ in May. This taster day gives the students an opportunity to follow a day with their new tutor group, meet new friends and, most importantly, start to meet some of the teachers who they will be spending the next 5 years with.
Information and Social Evening
There is also an information evening for all Year 6 parents on the 8th May 2017. This is an opportunity to gain information about your child starting in September. Finally, on June 15th 2017 there is a Year 6 social event held at Life Church, which will be an opportunity to once again meet up with the pupils in the same year and parents to talk through any last minute nerves or excitement.
